Guest Comic: I'm Aware
While I'm away studying for my state licensing exam, some extremely talented artists have stepped in to continue telling cancer stories for me until I return!
This week is my friend, Mike McDonald who is best known for his hilarious webcomic, Cat and Cat. What I love about Mike's work is his attention to mundane details and subtle nuance, as you will see in his cat comics featuring Abbot & Costello style one-liner gags.
As for our submitter, Jordan Eschler was so cool to trust another artist she's unfamiliar with to tell her story. Here's her original submission:
During chemo for Hodgkins, I was a bald woman (and I almost never wore a hat because it was the middle of summer). I decided on one magical day when I had an appetite to walk from work to my favorite deli for lunch. A trip that was, unfortunately, all uphill. I'd walk a block at a time and stop at each corner to catch my breath. At one corner, a couple of college-aged kids with clipboards approached. "Ma'am? We'd like to talk to you today about breast cancer awareness." I looked at them, smirking, then gestured to my bare, bald head. "Oh, no thanks, I'm AWARE!" They ran off, mortified. I chuckle when I think about this story.
